The basic principles regarding the alternative pedagogies applied at our school here in St Martin du Touch (Toulouse - 31300)

 

"I am convinced that school success depends not only on the school, but on its learning system and its pace.

 

The objective and the challenge of our school based in Toulouse and more precisely in St Martin du Touch is to allow each student to develop in an appropriate environment and whatever the social, economic, psychological or cultural context of the school, child. Consider the child's story, his personality so that he can follow his own educational pace.

 

The elementary school "LA BOÉTIE" located in Toulouse (31) is a school based on alternative ACTIVE pedagogies. How can we define an active pedagogy? The pupil intervenes in the construction of his own knowledge, which means that he becomes an actor in his learning.

 

We will alternate different alternative teaching methods because for us, the pupil being at the center of his teaching, it will be important that the pedagogical team helps him to adapt so that he can be more confident.

 

Our main goal is that each child works in a calm environment, with individual pedagogical follow-up put in place by the educational team; In this way he/she will gradually and perfectly assimilate all the fundamental knowledge necessary to approach his college gradually.

 

The children will often work in small groups (maximum 5 pupils per class) always freely with the help of an extensive and adapted teaching material.

 

The reference methods within our school will be those of Maria MONTESSORI, Célestin FREINET and Ovide DECROLY, which consist of considering the child as a person in its own right and of creating a prepared environment by proposing an adapted educational system in order to promote the harmonious growth of the student.

 

  

The concept of our school is:

 

  • To promote cooperation in the classroom by encouraging children to help each other.

 

  • To enable children to take responsibility by setting up an organisation that encourages children to express

 

  • themselves, create and share their own interests.

 

  • To alternate intellectual and practial work by allowing the children to put what they learn into practice.

 

  • Respect the rhythm of the child because the pedagogical team of the elementary school LA BOÉTIE helps the child to gain autonomy by allowing him to choose his work and to exploit his abilities at his own pace."
